Last week, several of the kids expressed interest in building helicopters so that was the challenge today.
To get the kids started, we introduced a new lego piece that can make both vertical and horizontal connections.
The kids also took their closest look yet at a full bushing. They learned that the top and bottom of the bushing have different geometry and one side of the bushing can connect with a lego brick.
We discussed how boats work by pushing water away from the boat. The kids were able to recognize that a helicopter must work the same way and push air down in order to lift the helicopter up.
By the end of the session, the kids realized that they needed more speed. Perhaps they will use gears for more speed to see if they can lift off next time.
